TU/e Coherent package - design for games and play

The course combines a theoretical and practice-based approach: you develop serious games and playful concepts (toys, smart environments, social media) while learning theories of interaction design, game design, psychology of games, user experience, testing and evaluation. This results in a broad practical understanding of the technical, commercial and societal aspects of game design and the role of the game industry in that arena.

Courses in short:

DZC10 Design for Games & Play I; Game Design

Game Design teaches you the art of game design and development. During the course you will work in multidisciplinary teams in order to create your own exciting game. You will research game design from a variety of lenses (e.g. mechanical, societal, technological) and learn how to create surprising and state of the art games and VR experiences.

DZC20 Design for Games & Play II; Learning and Persuasion in Games

Games offer us small windows into alternate realities and subsequently can be powerful learning and transformational experiences. The course Learning and Persuasion in Games delves into the more psychological aspects and mechanics of games, to determine why they work and how you can use this to create highly engaging playful tools for persuasive and/or educational purposes.

DZC30 Design for Games & Play III; Playful Interactions

In this course you will study the most relevant and innovative theories regarding games and play as technical, cultural and societal object. We will study 'ambient' games and play environments intertwined with daily activities of the users. Students will learn to program in intelligent & distributed environments by means of tangible interfaces and experience design.
