Can’t Wait to Learn: Ukraine

War Child’s Can’t Wait to Learn Ukraine program was launched in response to the war’s impact on education. Over 2,300 schools have been damaged and nearly 300 destroyed, leaving thousands of children without access to quality education. As a digital learning program, CWTL aims to address this by providing educational opportunities for children regardless of their location.Since its inception, Can’t Wait to Learn has successfully educated over 59,000 children in conflict-affected countries. In Ukraine, the program was launched in September 2022, offering a game-based learning experience on smartphones. It was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, NGO Osvitoria, local artists and the children themselves, ensuring it reflects their real world and culture.Can’t Wait to Learn follows approved curricula, ensuring academic progression whilst also supporting childrens’ mental well-being during sustained war. However, the ongoing conflict necessitates expanding the program to reach two-thirds of displaced Ukrainian children, thereby bridging the gap between the pre-existing frame of Ukrainian online education. To achieve this, CWTL is made accessible through an online learning app, allowing teachers and caregivers to download the game package on their personal devices. This enables wider access to education for the affected children amidst the challenging circumstances.
