Job Description
Negative Damage is looking for a freelance 3D Environment & Props Artist to join us during the production of our first game.
We’re creating a stylized narrative game primarily set inside an atmospheric restaurant. The visual direction combines a cozy, lived-in setting with noir and German Expressionist influences: intimate and inviting at first glance, but with an underlying sense of unease, paranoia and political tension.
We’re looking for someone to help turn the current playable (temp art) environment into a cohesive final location, covering architecture, furniture, set dressing and a small visible exterior, as well as gameplay and decorative props such as tableware, food, appliances, cash and story-specific objects.
Our focus is firmly on atmosphere, composition and strong stylized shapes over high-fidelity detail or realism. Lighting and the way the environment works together with our stylized rendering are particularly important.
We’d ideally like someone who can work directly inside Unity and become part of the development team for the duration of the contract. Rather than receiving a list of assets and returning models, you should be comfortable building, dressing and iterating on the actual game environment, collaborating with our small team of programmers and designers and solving the technical challenges that come with putting art into a game.
We’re looking for someone with experience in:
- Stylized 3D environment art
- Props and game-ready asset creation
- Modular environment workflows
- UVs, texturing and materials
- Composition, set dressing and environmental storytelling
- Unity and real-time game-development workflows
- Lighting and/or stylized shaders is a big plus
- Communicating and iterating as part of a small development team
We care much more about creating a memorable place with a strong atmosphere and cohesive visual identity than achieving realistic detail.
This is a paid freelance position for a defined production period, working remotely with our team in the Netherlands.
When applying, please include your portfolio, availability, preferred rate (hourly/day rate or project-based), and a short introduction to the kind of work you enjoy doing.
